KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The West Bengal State Government of India has started screening people entering into Indian territory from eastern Nepal at three different border checkpoints for preventing the spread of coronavirus.

Directorate of Health Services of the West Bengal government on Monday directed government authorities concerned to start screening people entering into India through land routes in Panitanki, Mirik and Pashupati Market.

The Indian authorities took such decision after a suspected case of coronavirus in Nepal.

The directorate has decided to place a paramedic team at each of these entry points round-the-clock.

The paramedic team will receive any self-reported person and guide him/her for the next course of action.

Indian Federal Health Ministry also held a meeting on Monday to review preparedness and screening of those entering India from Nepal in five bordering states. All five state governments that share border with Nepal have been asked to ensure that community-level monitoring of passengers is undertaken through health staff, media reports said.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry has asked all Integrated Check Posts to initiate screening visitors from Nepal. The ministry has asked the state governments to provide health staffers for screening visitors, while the SSB and BSF manning the ICP are alerted, according to reports on Indian media.
