RASUWA, Jan 28: Border authorities of Nepal and China have decided to close the Rasuwagadhi border point for 15 days starting Thursday to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The locals of Rasuwa will be barred from crossing the border from Thursday morning. The authorities have also decided to halt vehicular movement across the border.

A meeting of the police and immigration officials of both the countries on Tuesday morning took the decision.

Besides the issue of coronavirus, they had also discussed the poor condition of road in the area. Snowfall has left the road near Kerung prone to landslides. Similarly, the officials had also cited the festival of Lhosar, which is round the corner, as another reason to regulate human movement in the border area.

Officials have set hp health desks on both sides of the border to test the virus in travelers.

The Chinese authorities had said they would bar anyone infected with coronovirus from traveling across the border into Nepal. “Strict measures have been taken in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

Even the locals of Rasuwa who hold special ‘China passes’ will be allowed to get just across the border, and not beyond that,” said DSP Indra Prasad Subedi.
