SINDHUPALCHOWK, Jan 20: The District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk imposed a curfew in Barhabise on Sunday to demolish temporary huts of the locals built by encroaching the Arniko Highway.

After the locals staged protests against the decision of the district administration to demolish the temporary structures constructed along the highway, the DAO imposed curfew from 8am to 5pm and demolished the illegally-built infrastructures.

The local administration had imposed curfew in wards 3, 4 and 9 of Barhabishe Municipality.

The locals started protest from Friday after the Barhabishe Municipality started demolishing huts built on the roadside.

A group of locals had also padlocked the office of Barhabishe Municipality, protesting the decision to remove infrastructures from the roadside.

Following the curfew imposed by the local administration, businesses and schools remained closed on Sunday. Likewise, the local administration also barred gathering of more than five people in the prohibited area.

A huge number of police has been mobilized in the area since Friday. Likewise, a team of Nepal Army also patrolled the streets.

According to Nim Funjo Sherpa, mayor of Barhabishe Municipality, the infrastructures were demolished for the proper management of the market built haphazardly.
