PARBAT, Jan 18: The District Administration Office (DAO) is tightening the screw on fair organizers in Parbat on the grounds of breach of security, encouragement of illicit and corrupt behavior and poor utilization of funds.

District authorities have introduced new rules to control the tendency of organizing fairs. Since the fair organizers spend funds recklessly and avoid paying taxes to the government, the authorities were compelled to impose the restrictions.

Under the new rules, fair organizers should compulsorily submit the proof of their organization registration, recommendation from the local unit concerned and Parbat Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and Value Added Tax registration certificate.  The organizers are also required to promote local goods and publicize their income and expenditure statement within a month of conducting the fair. While Parbat Chambers of Commerce and Industry is allowed to conduct their trade fair for 11 days, other municipality level fair organizers are given the permission of just seven days. Similarly, organizing a simple fair for more than five days is also going to be considered illegal.

Due to the lack of monitoring of fairs, the tendency of using the logos of organizations to accumulate funds has been peaking in Parbat. Hence, under the coordination of the chief district officer, Kalpana Ghimire Nepal, a committee comprising the heads of security departments, presidents of the Parbat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Federation of Nepali Journalists, and mayors of the municipalities and rural municipalities has been formed to monitor the fairs to be organized in Parbat in the coming days.
