KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Bibeksheel Nepali Dal expressed concern over controversies being surfaced on leasing the land of Nepal Trust at Durbar Marg to Thamserku Developers and extension of the lease period of Gokarna Forest Resort for another 25 years.

Releasing a press statement on Friday, the party claimed that extension of the lease period of the land of about 2,900 ropanis to Gokarna Forest resort by 25 years 5 years and 8 months before the termination of the current contract of the lease has indicated serious irregularities.

“Although there is a legal provision that the constructions set at the land belong to the land-owner, a new agreement has been signed in a way that completely fresh land has been leased. Thus, it indicates severe corruption,” the statement read.

Party, on the other hand also claimed that Nepal Trust has to incur a loss of Rs 5.57 billion following the new contract.

The statement released by its Vice-Chairperson Ajita Rai stated that corruption at policy level can be easily experienced as Nepal Trust Act 2064 BS had been amended easing the procedures to award the land at prime locations without issuing public bidding. “These acts indicate the level of prevailing policy corruption in Nepal and a big irony to the Prime Minister’s commitment to zero tolerance against corruption,” she wrote.
