BARA, Dec 21: Amid growing cold in the district, several local units in Bara district have closed the community schools from this week.

According to Phanindra Mani Pokharel, the chief district officer of Bara, Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City, Mahagadhimai Municipality and Devtal Rural Municipality have closed the community schools due to the decreasing temperature.

“The schools have been closed so that students don't fall sick due to cold weather," Upendra Yadav, mayor of Mahagadhimai Municipality said. The minimum temperature of Bara was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Likewise, the Simara Airport was also closed since Thursday citing poor visibility due to a thick fog. On a normal day, the airport handles around 13 flights, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CIAA).

According to Basanta Gautam, the chief of Simara Airport said visibility should be at least 2,400 meters to operate flights but currently it has decreased to around 1,000 meters.

The Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City in coordination with the District Administration Office and the District Police Office has lit wood fire at public squares.

The movement of people in public places has also decreased as most of them remain indoors. Likewise, the number of service seekers has also decreased in the government offices.

Suresh Kumar Khanal, mayor of Nijgadh Municipality, also said that the municipality has also lit wood fires at public places for the people to keep warm.
