Nation has been betrayed: Coach Gurung

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Gold medal hopeful Tulsa KC has abandoned the final stage closed camp for the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), in search of a future in Qatar. She left the country on Friday and sports officials had no clue about her plans.

Winner of a gold medal during the Eighth National Games, KC admitted in a letter to her coach Chandra Bahadur Gurung to having lied to sports officials.

“I had a passion to represent Nepal. I had no choice but to lie. I went abroad to make my life better,” said KC in her letter.

She was set to represent Nepal in the 400 meter race and the 400 meter hurdles during the SAG. She went AWOL on Friday, according to Gurung and manager Mohan Ghale.

“She went out of the hotel, citing a puja at home. She didn’t return to the training. We are not able to contact her,” said Gurung.

“We have information that she went to Qatar to join the Dubai police. She was one of the front-runners who could win gold for Nepal. We feel betrayed. The whole nation has been betrayed,” added Gurung.

Gurung has already sent an official letter to the national squad preparation committee co-ordinator Rim Rana Bhat and the National Sports Council (NSC) in this connection. He has also informed Tribhuvan Army Club, which she represents in Nepal, that she has abandoned the team.

KC won gold in the last national games with a timing of 59.56 seconds, a national record.
Gurung and manager Ghale further disclosed that KC’s teammate Tulsa Shrestha also abandon the national team during the second stage of closed camp last month. Shrestha likewise remains out of contact.

KC has deactivated her social media account.
