Over 80 films from 28 countries to be screened in KIMFF

KATHMANDU, Oct 26: More than 80 films from 28 countries are going to be screened at the 14th edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) from 8 – 12 December at QFX Kumari Hall Kamal Pokhari. 

The festival will showcase documentaries, fiction, shorts, experimental films and animation. 
KIMFF in collaboration with Popcorn Pictures will open with the Nepal Premiere of Seto Surya (White Sun) Directed by Deepak Rauniyar, read a statement issued by the organization. The 88-minute feature is a multi-generational story of a family and community which struggle to come to terms with socio-political changes in post conflict Nepal. 

“It’s a homecoming of sorts for Deepak since his films Chaukaith and Pooja featured in previous editions of the festival,” says Festival Director Ramyata Limbu. “We’re extremely proud that one of our own is pursuing his passion for film while introducing creative and credible narratives from Nepal to local and international audiences.” 

Seto Surya premiered at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival and has been screened in Toronto International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival in Korea. 

This year Alliance for Social Dialogue (ASD) and KIMFF will present ‘Strengthening Nepal’s Public Services’ a short film competition while KIMFF’s Nepal Panorama will showcase exciting films by local talent, read the statement. 

The organizers said that KIMFF will feature 20 films in international competition and 48 films in the non competitive section. “Nepal Panorama will showcase 16 films, including four films from KIMFF’s doc lab.”

The top three prizes are US$ 1500, $1000, $500 for the international competition, cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 each for best fiction film and non-fiction category in Nepal Panorama. The top film from an ICIMOD member country, will receive The Best ICIMOD Mountain Film award of US $1000.  KIMFF’s Audience Award Trophy will go to the film receiving the largest number of votes from viewers.
