KATHMANDU, Nov 11: The State Affairs Committee of the Federal Parliament has directed the government to resolve the border issue of the Kalapani area with India through diplomatic channels, nine days after India unveiled new political maps placing the territory inside Indian borders.

During a meeting of the committee on Monday, the parliamentarians expressed concern over growing encroachment upon the Nepali territories in various places by India.

On the occasion, Committee Chairperson Shashi Shrestha called for building national political consensus before holding talks with the Indian government over border encroachment in various places including Kalapani and Limpiyadhura by the southern neighbor.

During the meeting, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa said that the government is holding talks with India in the third week of November to settle existing border disputes.

Pampha Bhusal, a lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party said that growing encroachment upon Nepali territories by India is intolerable. "The government should seek a long-term solution regarding India's continued encroachment upon sovereign Nepali territories," she said.
