On average two journos killed a week, UNESCO report says

Nearly 500 journalists were killed throughout the world between 2014 and 2018 which accounted for an 18% increase in the number of killings, as compared to the preceding five-year period (2009-2013). 

According to a report published by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) titled 'Intensified Attacks, New Defences', 2 journalists were killed every week on average in the period. 

Chhath festival being observed today

 

The festival of purity, goodwill and faith, Chhat is being observed with high regard and much fanfare today. The main ritual of this four-day Chhath festival begins this evening by worshipping and making offerings to the setting sun. Accordingly, the devotees take a holy bath while fasting and worshipping the sun standing inside water, offering Prasad (holy food) and Argha (curd) to the setting Sun this evening

 

NCP to finalize its candidates for by-polls tomorrow 

 

The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) will finalize its candidates for the upcoming by-election on Sunday. A meeting of the party secretariat held at the prime minister's official residence at Baluwatar on Saturday failed to make any decision to this effect. 

3 dead bodies found in Gulmi

Three dead bodies have been found at Gaidhunga, Harrachour of Chandrakot rural municipality in the eastern Gulmi. According to District Police Office Gulmi, dead bodies of one woman and two young girls were recovered on Saturday. However, their identity has yet to be established.

President Xi goes to Iowa? Trump floats farm state to seal trade deal

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday suggested he could sign a long-awaited trade agreement with China in the farm state of Iowa, which has been hard hit by tariffs in a nearly 16-month trade war between the world’s largest economies. Trump said on Friday evening that negotiations about a “phase one” agreement were going well and he hoped to sign the deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a U.S. location when work on the agreement was completed.
