KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Police have rounded up as many as 77 individuals on the charge of stealing cash and kinds from passengers travelling in public vehicles plying the roads in the capital.

Following complaints filed by the victims, Metropolitan Police Range Office (MPRO), Kathmandu, on December 1,  launched crackdown on the organized network of pick-pockets.

Issuing a press note issued on Wednesday, the MPRO said that it has returned Rs 596,000 to the concerned victims. It had been stolen from different commuters in the capital.

Similarly, the MPRO has also recovered 39 mobile sets, four sets of i-Pads and five sets of laptops along with Rs 160, 700 in cash that had been stone from various commuters.

Police found that, under the organized crime, a group of two pickpockets do get onto public vehicles impersonating themselves as passengers and steal the money and other valuables from the passengers using code language.

Police said they are investigating the case.
