GALESHWOR, Oct 7: Parliamentary Committee on Development has instructed the government to open Nepal-China Korala border point for bilateral trade ahead of the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign.

The committee also urged the Ministries of Physical Infrastructure and Tourism and Civil Aviation to accelerate the construction of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section which is a gateway to Korala border point in Mustang. Mustang borders northern neighbor China.

"We have asked the government to open Korala border point for bilateral trade ahead of Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign," she said.

The instruction comes a week after the committee members visited the road section. Committee president Kalyani Khadka said that Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Ministry of Tourism has been directed to expedite construction of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section, one of the national pride projects announced by the government couple of years ago.

She expressed concern over the dilly-dallying in the construction of the road section and a river bridge linking Korala border point. Khadka accused the government of not paying attention to prepare the design to construct the bridge.

Parliamentarian Khadka said "It seems that the plan to open the road connecting Kathmandu with Korala is in limbo due to unavailability of the explosives required to construct it."

The committee regretted over the slow pace of construction works along the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section. "The government should give top priority to such an important national pride project," Khadka added.
