KATHMANDU, August 10: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has revealed that most of the people succumbing to COVID-19 infection in recent days are found to be unvaccinated.

According to Assistant Spokesperson of the Ministry Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, 75 percent of those who died of COVID-19 were found not vaccinated against coronavirus. He urged those unvaccinated to get inoculation service as they are the most vulnerable to the contagion. "We urge all those unvaccinated to get first, second and booster dose of inoculation against COVID-19 from the nearby health facility as per the need."

Two people lost their lives to coronavirus infection on Tuesday. So far, 11,974 infected have succumbed to COVID-19.

Those unvaccinated are 10 times more vulnerable to severity and fatality than the vaccinated, the ministry sources claimed.

Inoculation of booster dose provides 85 percent protection to the infected from severity and possible death.

As informed, 93.3 percent of the targeted population has received the first dose of inoculation service against COVID-19 while 88.5 percent have been vaccinated with the second dose.

The ministry has urged the people to wear masks covering nose and mouth, maintain physical distance and resort to frequent hand washing with soap and water in order to get protected from infection.

Currently over 1,000 people are testing positive for coronavirus every day.
