SINDHULI, June 24: Construction of a 75-kilometer trekking trail to connect Hariharpurgadhi fort of Makawanpur with Sindhuligadhi fort of Sindhuli has been completed. 

With completion of construction works, the trail has now been officially opened to visitors. 

Opening the trail, Member of Parliament Haribol Gajurel said that the trail connects two historic forts. "I am hopeful that the initiative will help in socio-economic development on villages along the trail," he added.

According to Gajurel, Rs 4 million had been allocated to the project through Prosperous Sindhuli Program, while remaining amount was arranged by Nepal Army.

Sindhuli fort holds great significance in Nepali history as it was near this fort that Nepali soldiers had defeated the advancing British troops. Further, the trail connects various localities where Gorkhali soldiers under late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified modern Nepal, fought many battles.

The construction was completed in one and half months by altogether 100 workers.

Structures like entrance gate at Ghante as well as resting places in Khorbhanjyang and Jitpur have also been built as part of the project. 

The Hariharpur fort was built in 1381 BS by Hari Singh Dev. 

Rajeev Thapa, chief of Bardabahadur Battalion of Nepal Army, said that they were thinking of branding the trail as 'Unification Trail' as it connects different trails used during the time of Prithvi Narayan Shah.
