NC tells govt to declare state of emergency in health sector

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: The main opposition party Nepali Congress has urged the government to declare the state of emergency in the health sector citing pandemic of dengue has gone out of control.

Speaking at the special session of National Assembly meeting on Wednesday, Congress lawmaker Radhesyam Adhikari drew the attention of the government over the dengue outbreak throughout the country.

“The government seems clueless to combat dengue outbreak which has already spread in 56 districts out of 77. Isn’t it a national crisis?,” said Adhikari adding, “Dengue has already developed to an epidemics, so I urge the government to declare the state of emergency in the health sector.

Accusing the health minister, concerned authorities and physicians for turning blind eyes to the alarming situation, he demanded the minister to inform about the government's efforts to control the dengue outbreak to the parliament at the earliest.

According to him, some private hospitals are charging up to Rs.2,600 although Dengue test kit costs only Rs. 350. “In this context, I urge the government to make necessary arrangements for free treatment of dengue patients,” he said. 

Komal Oli, a lawmaker of the ruling party also commented that the government has failed to pay attention to controlling the Dengue. She also stressed the need for cooperation between the federal, provincial and local governments to control the dengue outbreak.
