NEA prioritizes digitizing its services

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced that digitizing its services will be the priority of the state-owned power authority for the current fiscal year.

“We will expand the online payment system for the convenience of the customers,” said Kulman Ghising, managing director of NEA, during the 34th-anniversary event of the authority.

Ghising also said that smart meters and other technologies will be installed to replace the existing technologies.

"We will implement enterprise resource planning to enhance the operational capacity of the NEA. We will implement these activities gradually to digitize the authority, which will help the Digital Nepal campaign of the government," Ghising said. "To implement the digitization plans of the NEA, employees of all levels will be provided skill enhancement training within the country and also abroad if needed."

"All the record-keeping works will also be gradually digitized. The authority's target is to completely adopt a paperless system," said Praveen Aryal, spokesperson of Ministry of Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation, speaking to Republica.

During the anniversary event, Ghising also said that separate distribution centers under provincial offices will be established. "Also, the financial details of all the provincial offices will be separately managed from the upcoming fiscal year," said Ghising.

He said that the authority will use an optical fiber network and other available resources for additional income generation of the NEA.

He also said that according to the directives of the government, the NEA will also expand the electricity distribution network to provide electricity to all households of Nepal within 2023.

He also said that the upgrading and expansion of the distribution system will be completed to address the increasing demand for electricity from industrial zones and urban areas.
