Host Pokhara reaches Safal Cup QF

POKHARA, Oct 24: Pokhara XI reached the quarterfinals of the Safal Pokhara Cup football tournament on Thursday beating Armed Police Force (APF) 1-0. Asim Jung Karki scored the lone goal for the home team at the Pokhara Stadium.



Karki, who was later adjudged man-of-the-match, chipped the ball into the net in the 62nd minute, giving no chance to APF goalkeeper Bikram Gurung. Pokhara XI will take on Laxmi Bank Three Star Club on Monday in the quarterfinal. [break]



Earlier in the 40th minute, APF defender Sudeep Shikhrakar denied Bibek Gurung´s shot from six yard in a cross off Sunil BK. Pokhara´s Aba Fedric failed to score in a one-on-one situation in the 44th minute.



APF goalie Gurung also denied Kumar Gurung´s acrobatic shot in the injury time to deny the home team from doubling the score.



Likewise, APF´s Jangbu Lama hit the woodwork in the 12th minute, when Ganesh Lawati provided him with an acute pass. Pokhara´s goalkeeper Raju Nagakoti denied Lama in the 43rd minute. Nagarkoti also denied APF striker Ganesh Lawati twice in the second half, including a one-on-one situation in the 67th minute.



Nepali national U-16 team will take on Nepalese Football Association, Hong Kong on Friday.
