DAILEKH, Aug 4: A model village of the Badi community in Dailkeh is under risk of landslide every year.

People of the Badi community, one of the backward and underprivileged communities, reside there amid the danger of being swept away by landslide. Last year, 15 houses were damaged by landslide.

This year too, heavy rainfall has triggered sliding of land mass above the settlement giving sleepless nights to 60 out of 65 houses of the community, as per the District Disaster Relief Committee, Dailekh.

Although the District Administration Office manages temporary solution to the problem by shifting the Badi people elsewhere during the moonsoon, they return to the settlement after the rain is over. Twenty-one families were resettled last year according to Chief District Officer of Dailekh, Laxmi Prasad Baskota.

The settlement is located on a slope of a hill which adds risk during prolonged rainfall. The concerned authorities have not been paying enough attention for disaster reduction, laments a local, Aguwa Pauwa.

The model village was set up 16 years ago by journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa. As the landslide started affecting the settlement since the last few years, many families have already migrated from the place.
