Random plotting of land a cause of concern: Minister Khanal

BHARATPUR, Aug 2: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Chakrapani Khanal has grieved that excessive and random plotting of land in Nepal was a cause of concern - arable lands turned into a concrete jungle.

Addressing the annual general assembly of Nepal Veterinary Association in Bharatpur, Chitwan, on Friday, Minister Khanal shared that so far 30.7 million kittas of plot were disintegrated in the country. Stating that around 9 million people were still living as landless squatters, Khanal said that dire situation would emerge if landless squatters were not streamlined.

The Minister also informed that Nepal was self-reliant in the poultry sector and hoped self-reliance in other areas too. He argued that in lack of proper coordination, there was no adequate agro produces in the country. The Minister pointed out the need to re-consider the issues relating to the modernization of agriculture and subsidy in agriculture.

Stating that the government had introduced youth in agriculture program, Minister Khanal said that the government had forwarded a program to integrate some 100 bighas of land in Terai and 100 ropanis of land in the mountainous area for agriculture purpose. The government would also provide compost, seedlings and tools for the same too, according to him. -
