Ex-land revenue staffer drawn in Balwuatar land scam dies in suspicious circumstance

KATHMANDU, July 28: Former land revenue staffer who was drawn in Baluwatar land scam has died in suspicious circumstance. The then non-gazetted first-class officer of Dillibazar-based land revenue office Yukta Prasad Shrestha, 57, has died falling from the seventh floor of the Himalayan City Center of Samakhushi.

Critically injured Shrestha was immediately rushed to People’s Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Shrestha, a permanent resident of Phalebas Municipality-6, Devisthan of Parbat, along with the purported tenants, the land mafia and land revenue officials have been accused of their role in transferring the ownership of the land that was acquired by the government with compensation between 2021 BS to 2028 BS. He was currently giving a statement to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in connection to the land scam. He took the retirement 16 years ago from the office, after which he was affiliated with Nepali Congress.

His body has been kept at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). The spokesperson at the Metropolitan Police Range, Hobindra Bogati, said that investigation into the case was underway.
