KATHMANDU, July 24: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has said that all three-level governments are actively involved in relief, rescue and rehabilitation of the victims in all flood and landslides-hit areas. Responding to the queries raised by the lawmakers during the deliberation in the proposal of public importance in the parliament, Minister Thapa informed the house that the government has deployed the concerned departments for the rescue operations in the affected areas.  

He appealed to the public to stay alert as the monsoon is still active across the country. According to the latest report, at least 108 people have lost their lives since July 11 whereas 33 are still missing; Minister Thapa informed adding that the government has started distributing Rs 100,000 each through District Disaster Relief Fund to the victim families of those who have lost their lives.

Similarly, Minister Thapa said that the ministry has started collecting the data of the victims for their resettlement and added that the government with the coordination of various organizations and volunteers has started health camps for the treatment of the injured. The government has directed the concerned authorities to restore the operation of damaged roads and supply of electricity at earliest.

Minister Thapa reiterated that the government is committed to solving the problem of floods every year during the monsoon season due to the embankment built by India in a diplomatic way. He reminded the house that the government has already started working on the legal process to form disaster management authority to address and solve the problem of natural disasters permanently.

Meanwhile, the house passing a special proposal has expressed deep condolence over the loss of lives and directed the government to protect the life of people and to focus on the rescue operation.

Likewise, the lawmakers of the House of Representatives have decided to donate a one-day salary to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
