Diktel-Kathmandu road reopens to one-way traffic

KHOTANG, July 20: Diktel-Kathmandu road obstructed by monsoon-triggered landslides for nine days has reopened to one-day traffic from Friday following the removal of landslide debris.

It took nine days to complete the task of clearing landslide debris from different stretches of road under the mid-hill highway.

“Transport link between Diktel and Kathmandu that was severed by the landslides triggered by torrential rain has been re-established after nine days,” said Chief District Officer of Khotang district Bishnu Hari Upadhyaya.

Though Diktel-Kathmandu road has reopened to one-way traffic, it has made possible transport link between the two places, added Upadhyaya.

However, other roads connecting Diktel and other cities such as Katari, Dharan,and Biratnagar are yet to be reopened to traffic. Due to the obstruction caused by landslides, Katari-Ghurmi road section under Siddhicharan Highway connecting Khotang district and eastern cities of Nepal is yet to be reopened to traffic, according to Ram Kumar Hingmang, secretary-general of Khotang Bus Pvt. Ltd.
