Triyuga bridge starts to collapse

GAIGHAT, July 17: Eastern part of a concrete bridge of Triyuga river in Gaighat along Gaighat-Kadmaha road section has now started collapsing following the incessant rainfall and flood that took place for four days continuously.

According to the Traffic Police Office, Gaighat, the bridge is at high-risk after eastern-side pillar of the bridge and its retaining wall started collapsing.

Chief at the Traffic Police Office, Gaighat, Dinesh Chaudhary, said that arrangement of one-way traffic from the western side of the bridge has been made to protect the bridge. Mayor of Triyuga municipality, Baldev Chaudhary said that reconstruction of the Triyuga river bridge would be carried out immediately.

Vehicles ply to different parts of the country—Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Dharan, Saptari and Siraha from Gaighat via the bridge constructed 10 years back at a cost of Rs 80 million. The bridge is 120 meters long and eight meters wide.
