KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, has said that Nepal has been making effort to ensure that the SAARC Summit is organized as soon as possible.

At an interaction organised by Reporter's Club here on Tuesday, Minister Mahat said that Nepal, as current SAARC Chair, has urged all SAARC member countries to create environment conducive to holding the summit soon.

Stating that there was a provision in the SAARC charter that mentions that consensus among all SARRC countries is mandatory to organise the SAARC Summit, he said, "We will take initiative to create environment conducive in order to guarantee the participation of all."

The Foreign Minister stressed that Nepal is always against international terrorism and added that one's territory should not be used against another.

Minister Dr Mahat said Nepal should maintain balanced relations with both India and China.
On the occasion, Foreign Minister Mahat also expressed concern over some parties describing the Nepal-India joint statement released during the Prime Minister's India visit as to have hurt the nationality and national interest. "We have not compromised with any side on matters of nationality and national interest," he said.
Dr Mahat shared that he had stressed during his address to the UNGA that Nepal's constitution was democratic and inclusive, and that discussions were underway to amend the national statute to address the concerns of the dissenting sides. RSS
