KATHMANDU, July 1: All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the sister wing of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has padlocked the Kathmandu University (KU) for the past six days.

Administrative works and classes were brought to a halt after the agitating students padlocked the university.

Professors have vented their ire at the university administration as it showed an apathy toward the resumption of classes closed since the agitation began.

Though the agitating students have said that there are a multiplicity of reasons behind their agitation, the university administration has attributed their agitation to its refusal to give ANNFSU-affiliated students money when they organized the Madan Bhandari Football Tournament.

“Since the tournament was organized by the political party, the university administration did not provide them with money when they organized the football tournament”, said one official at KU administration.

A Senate meeting of KU has been scheduled for today at PM's official residence at Baluwatar.

The faculty members associated with KU have been pressurizing upon Registrar Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma not to take any decisions regarding new investments in the re-structuring of KU.

Khagendra Acharya, Chair of KU Professors’ Association said, “We have already asked Registrar not to take any significant decisions”.
