KATHMANDU, June 26: Lightning strikes in Dang and Rupandehi districts on Tuesday evening killed at least six persons—three each in the two districts.
According to the District Police Office, Dang, those killed by a lightning that struck at around 6:30 pm at Maurighat in Rapti Rural Municipality include Ramit Chaudhary, 10; Sajan Chaudhary, 12; and Bibek Chaudhary, 13. Avinash Chaudhary, 8, of the same village is critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a local health post.
Police said the children were playing under a tree on the premises of Maurighat Primary School when the lightning hit.
Similarly, three others were killed in Rupandehi district. Those killed in Rupandehi district by lightning strikes include Chandra Bahadur BK, 62, of Sainamaina Rural Municipality Ward Number 7, Nanda Ram Aryal, 60, of Kanchan Rural Municipality Ward Number 2 and Bhagawat Das Lodh, 25, of Gaidahawa Rural Municipality Ward Number 7 in the district, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharma Raj Bhandari.
