KATHMANDU, June 10: The State Affairs Committee (SAC) of the House of Representatives has directed the Public Service Commission to scrap the vacancies at various local levels as these vacancies were against the principle of inclusive representation.

After holding discussion with Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit on Monday, the committee directed the PSC to scrap the vacancies. SAC chairperson Shashikala Shrestha informed that the committee has decided to direct the PSC to scrap the vacancies concluding that these vacancies were against the spirit of the inclusive representation enshrined by the Constitution.

The PSC had announced vacancies for over 9,000 posts as demanded by the province 2 government.

Earlier, the Madhes-based parties were opposing the modality of the vacancy announcement made by the PSC calling it non-inclusive.

The Madhes-based parties argue that the vacancy announcement failed to acknowledge the principle of inclusiveness and proportional representation as enshrined in the Constitution.

While the Federal Government has defended the vacancy announcement saying it was called to address the manpower crunch in the provincial and local governments in the absence of provincial PSCs. The PSC had called the vacancies after the federal government on May 20 asked it to start the recruitment process.
