JANAKPUR, June 7: Leaders of the ruling coalition have filed an amendment proposal against the policy and program presented by Ratneshwar Lal Kayastha, governor of Province 2, on behalf of the provincial government on Sunday.

Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN), one of the parties in the ruling coalition, on Wednesday filed the amendment at the provincial assembly secretariat. Lawmaker from Saptari Bideshwar Prasad Yadav (Bikki) informed Republica that the party has registered a 13-point amendment.

According to him, the provincial government has formulated policy and program that ignore the basis for physical, education and social development. “Several people shed their blood and sacrificed their lives in the Madhes movement. People have huge expectations of the government which has been formed after a long struggle. However, the provincial government has insulted the Madhes movement by introducing policy and policy in their own favor,” said Yadav.

Another RJPN lawmaker, Dr Rina Yadav, accused the government of failing to bring programs for martyr families, the injured and women who contributed to the Madhes movement. “The government program forgets that people sidelined the mainstream parties and chose a party with a different agenda to lead one of seven provinces,” she argues. 

She warned that if the government continues its negligence, it may not last long. Many RJPN leaders have complained that they were told to review the 20-page list of programs and policies just 15 minutes before it was presented to the provincial assembly. “We had no time to study it and give our suggestions, “said lawmaker Rina Yadav.

She laments that some of them had given their suggestions but these were not accommodated. 
Ranjit Yadav, secretary of the provincial assembly secretariat, informed Republica that around half a dozen amendments have been proposed. Lawmakers have accused the provincial government of taking no action to control the illegally operating crusher plants along the highway in Bardibas despite claiming to protect the Chure area.

“In their speeches, leaders often promise to make our country self-reliant in agriculture. However, no programs are being introduced to make this happen,” added lawmaker Rina Yadav.
