KATHMANDU, May 24: The Tribhuvan Army Club of Nepal Army has made a winning start to the 3rd Prime Minister Cup One-Day Cricket National Tournament by beating State 2 with 171 runs.
In the tournament held at Tribhuvan University Ground at Kirtipur on Friday, Army’s players which got batting by losing in the coin toss made 278 runs by losing nine wickets in 50 overs.
State 2, which was chasing the target of 279 runs, lost all the wickets and amassed 107 runs in 31.4 overs.
Hari Shankar Shah stroke the highest 21 runs for State 2 while Samsad Seikh scored 16 runs, Sudhir Chaudhary 15, Rashid Khan 14 and Suraj Patel 11.
Army’s Shahab Alam took four wickets under bowling while Sushan Bhari three, Jitendra Mukhiya 2 and Kushal Malla 1.
The batting of Army was very impressive in the beginning. Batsman Raju Rijal and Captain Binod Bhandari built 121-run partnership where Rijal hit two sixes and four boundaries and made 90 runs. Bhandari contributed 66 runs with nine sixes.
Raju Rijal of Army Club was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
Three departmental teams and seven State teams are vying in the tournament organized by the National Sports Council.
APF Club, State 5, State 3, Far Western State and Gandaki State belong to group 'A' while Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, State 2, State 1 and Karnali State are playing under group 'B'.
The winner will take home Rs 2 million while runner ups secure Rs 1 million each.
