BIRATNAGAR, May 4: Even after intense discussions within the ruling party for the last three days, the Province 1 government could not finalize the name of the province.
However, the equally controversial issue of fixing the provincial capital has now been resolved as 'Greater Biratnagar' has been chosen as the province capital.
According to Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai, naming the province has been put on hold for now.Though many had demanded that 'Kirat' be added as a suffix while naming the province, some other groups were not happy about it.
The long-standing controversy had hogged headlines several times. It was expected that the provincial government would be able to come up with a solution following the three-day long discussion.
However, the meeting which ended late Friday evening put the name issue on hold and only fixed 'Greater Biratnagar' as the capital."
But even regarding the capital, we should understand what greater Biratnagar means. Infrastructures are going to be built in Itahari, Gothgau and some other areas as well. So we call it the 'Greater Biratnagar'," said Province In-charge of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Bhim Acharya.
"This has satisfied all stakeholders."As the capital controversy had also been a headache for the government, it had prepared to extend offices or services to beyond Biratnagar. The stakeholders had agreed on it.
