Cabinet approves budget; waives renewal fee for TV, radio

KATHMANDU, July 13: The government on Monday decided to waive license renewal fee for television and FM radio stations for the new fiscal year.



Sources said the decision was taken to help relieve the television and radio operators from financial problems as they could not generate good revenue due prolonged power outage this year.



The meeting also approved budget for the fiscal year 2009/10. [break]



This is the second consecutive year that the fee has been waived for the broadcast media.



The previous Maoist-led government had also waived license renewal fee for the current fiscal year at the request of FM and radio operators.



Talking to mediapersons, government spokesperson Shankar Pokharel said the meeting also decided to promote Brigadier General BA Kumar Sharma, head of legal department in the Nepal Army, to the post of major general.
