PM Oli attending Jitgadhi festival

BUTWAL, April 20: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is arriving here today to attend as Chief Guest at the special function to be held to mark the victory celebrations at the historical Jitgadhi in ward no. 1 of Butwal Sub-metropolis.

Also arriving are NCP Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Iswar Pokharel and Chief Minister Shanker Pokharel, according to the Sub-metropolis.

The victory celebration is being observed in memory of the day Nepali forces led by Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa defeated advancing British forces at the site some 204 years ago. The event is taking place at the Jitgadhi fort located on the banks of the Tinau river in ward no. 1 of the Sub-metropolis. The day is being observed as a national festival of State no. 5 since last year. On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to unveil a full-size statue of Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa.
