KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Minister for Labor and Employment Suryaman Gurung on Monday said that the government is preparing to lift the ban on Nepali workers for Afghanistan and Iraq. According to him, a next meeting of the Council of Ministers will take a decision to this effect.

He claimed that the US and British Ambassadors for Nepal have pressed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to lift the ban on Nepalis working in the war-torn countries.

“They personally met the PM and assured him of full proof security to Nepali workers. Thus, the government will take a decision to that end soon,” said Minister Gurung.

He added that the US and British envoys assured the Prime Minister that bulletproof vehicles will be arranged for the workers for travelling.

Following the Afghanistan bomb attack which killed 13 Nepali citizens, the government on June 23 had imposed a ban on employment for Nepali workers in the four conflict-ravaged countries of Afghanistan, Syria, Libya and Iraq.
