LAMJUNG, April 10: A brick found at Barbot village along the Marsyangdi River bank has been handed over to the Department of Archaeology (DoA). The brick which is believed to have historical and archaeological value was spotted at Beshisahar, Chiti-11, Barbot. In order to study the brick, it has been handed over to the DoA.

Former District Development Committee chairperson and advisor to Chiti Karkidada Sewa Samaj, Shankar Kant Joshi and Ganesh Pandey, one of the locals handed over the brick to the acting Director General of DoA, Damodar Gautam. The site was further studied and the brick has been submitted to the department with a hope to conduct research on its historical merits. Based on the inscription made on the brick, the DoA says the brick could date back to Nepal's Middle ages.

Locals believe that unattended debris to be closely linked to a crucial historical era of Nepal. The architectural structure of the area is also assumed to have designed alike the old durbars of ancient era. One of the locals Lekhnath Sharma said that the rulers might have used the place as their kingdom when several states known as baise and chaubise principalities existed in Nepal. If the study is conducted properly and the valuables are preserved well, Sharma believes that it can help foster tourism in the country.

Prior to this, Karkidada Samaj had informed the municipality head Gumanasi Aryal about the site handing over a few valuable bricks. Meanwhile, advisor to the Samaj informed Republica that Ramchowk Gadi of Chiti, Siddheshwar Mahadev Temple of Tilahar including various other areas share historical, archaeological and touristic value in the area.
