SINDHULI, April 8: Prem Bahadur Shrestha, a leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) led by Netra Bikram Chand, has announced to quit the party after being arrested by police. He pledged to part his ways from the party with Chief District Officer Gyan Prasad Dhakal of Sindhuli.

Shrestha, a resident of Khadadevi Rural Municipality-1, Rakathum of Ramechhap, had also held the position of the vice-chairperson of “Tamsaling Autonomous State,” a sister organization of CPN. Shrestha, who is currently operating the Khadadevi brick industry in Sindhuli's Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, confirmed his disassociation from the said party upon being taken into custody by the District Police Office, Sindhuli. He also notified that he had joined the CPN unwillingly under pressure. 

Shrestha notified that the CPN was involved in violent activities to acquire funding from innocent civilians, hence forcing him to end his affiliation with the party.

CDO Dhakal stated that Prem Bahadur Shrestha could face charges if proven guilty of having committed any crime regardless of his current political status. Shrestha is said to have surrendered upon being arrested by the Area Police Office of Golanjor Rural Municipality, Khurkot.
