LAHAN, March 24: Two minors and a woman died on Saturday in two different fire incidents that occurred in Siraha.

A fire that erupted at the house of Deepak Dhamala of Dhangadhimai Municipality-14 killed his six-year-old daughter Dikchya and his neighbor Nityaraj Pokharel's seven-year-old daughter Ritu. As the roads in this ward are in dilapidated state, fire extinguishers could not reach there. As a result, security personnel and the locals doused the fire in around two hours.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajesh Thapa of Area Police Office (APO), Lahan informed Republica that the fire, which caught Dhamala's house at around 2 pm, came under control at around 4 pm. As per the preliminary investigation of police, the children were sleeping inside the house and could not escape the fire.

As the settlement is thin in this ward, the fire did not spread to other houses. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, Banarasi Devi Saday, 50, of Kalyanpur Municipality-7 in Siraha died after her Saree caught fire from a cooking stove. As informed by police, Banarasi had lightened her stove using hay, which later caught her cloth. After sustaining critical burn injuries, she was admitted to Karjanha-based Phul Kumari Memorial Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning. The fire has completely destroyed her thatched-roofed house.
