Solukhumbu’s last rural municipality to be connected to road network

After decades of isolation, the Khumbupasanglhyamu Rural Municipality will be connected to the national road network by this fiscal year. Of the eight RMs in Solukhumbu, this is the only one that is yet to be linked by road network, a task that the local body plans to conquer by this fiscal year. 

Public vehicles to be equipped with GPS

The government is planning to install Global Position System (GPS) in public vehicles across the country. The Department of Transportation Management Division has agreed to partner with the World Bank for the project which is expected to start by the end of this fiscal year. However, the World Bank is yet to state the total support it will fund into the program.

PM observes under-construction international airport

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli observed the under-construction Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa of Rupandehi today and acquired information on its progress. Project chief, Er Prabesh Adhikari on the occasion presented a progress report of the airport. According to him, 80 per cent of the works of the airport has been completed to date. 

Silver and copper coins dating 13th century recovered

Silver and copper coins dating back to 13th and 17th centuries have been found in course of digging a road at Barbardiya municipality-6 in Bardiya district. The recovered coins include five silver coins weighing 54 milligrams and 200 copper coins weighing seven kilograms, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Madanjit Mahara. They were put in a clay pot. 

Explosion at Chinese chemical plant kills 47, injures 640

An explosion at a pesticide plant in eastern China has killed 47 people and injured more than 600. Survivors were taken to 16 hospitals with 640 people being treated for injuries. Thirty-two of them were critically injured. The cause of the explosion was under investigation, but the company - which produces more than 30 organic chemical compounds, some of which are highly flammable - has been cited and fined for work safety violations in the past.
