Foreign Minister Dr Mahat meets Norwegian counterpart Brende

NEW YORK, Sept 23: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat who is leading the Nepali delegation, held a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende on Thursday in New York. 

The bilateral meeting was held on the sidelines of the ongoing 71st Session of the UN General Assembly in UN Headquarters in New York. 

During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to forge a common stand on the matters relating to mutual interests and further widening and deepening the ties between Nepal and Norway, according to Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi. 

On the occasion, the Norwegian Foreign Minister inquired his Nepali counterpart about the ongoing post-quake reconstruction efforts in Nepal, shared Foreign Secretary Bairagi. 

Expressing his belief that the post-reconstruction drive in Nepal would be expedited, Minister Brende also expressed the willingness of the government of Norway for collaboration on the similar domain, Foreign Secretary Bairagi added. 

Similarly, in a separate meeting held between Foreign Minister Mahat and the British Minister for Asia, Alok Sharma on Thursday, the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral and multilateral issues. 

The meeting also touched on the Nepal's latest political development as well as trade and investment situation in Nepal. 

Matters relating to the issues of ex-Gurkhas were also discussed in the meeting. 

Likewise, United States Under-Secretary of State Thomas Shannon paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Mahat on the same day. 

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of matters on bilateral relations and mutual interests. RSS
