Earlier on Monday, a single bench of Judge Balaram Lamsal at the Kathmandu District Court ordered her release on bail after a detention hearing.

But as soon as she paid the bail and was released, a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested her again and handed her over to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation.

Spokesperson at CIB, Superintendent of Police Yubraj Khadka, confirmed that they detained her after receiving a request letter from the money laundering department for investigation.

Roka is the wife of Belgian national Dawa Chhiring, the main accused in the 60 kg gold smuggling case. She had been on the run for one and a half years and was arrested last Friday by the CIB from Tokha, Kathmandu.

The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) had also issued a diffusion notice for her arrest.

The case came to light after more than 60 kg of gold hidden in ‘brake shoes’ that came out of Tribhuvan International Airport on July 18, 2023, was seized by the Department of Revenue Investigation.

In this case, the Office of the Attorney General in Kathmandu filed a case against 29 people, including Roka.
