RJPN finalizes candidacy: Who will contest where?

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has finalized candidacy of member of presidium of the party. As per the decision, all the members of the presidium will contest for the upcoming federal parliament under First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) electoral system.

SC issues stay order against TU’s decision

The Supreme Court has issued stay order against the decision of Tribhuvan University (TU) to scrap affiliation given to National Medical College in Kathmandu. A single bench of justice Dambar Bahadur Shahi issued the order without calling the persecutor to discuss over a writ filed by the owner of the college.   On July 27, the TU’s Executive Council had grated affiliation to the College. However, the TU had decided to scrap the affiliation following the agreement reached with Dr Gobinda KC, who staged 12th hunger strike to put pressure on the government to bring reform in the medical sector. An investigation conducted by TU Executive Council after the agreement with Dr KC had found that the College did not meet basic criteria.

Nabina with Dahal, Ranjit with Oli for nomination

CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) have decided to mobilize students to assist for nominations of the top leaders of Left alliance for the upcoming second phase of the election. The students from each party will assist the leaders from next party for the registration of the candidacy in the respective constituency. The meeting of the alliance has decided to mobilize Ranjit Tamang, chairperson of All Nepal National Free Students Union ANNSFU (Revolutionary) for the nominations of UML chair KP Sharma Oli whereas All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) chair Nabina Lama will assist MC chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Krisha Pd Adhikari's hearing put off for 15th time

Hearing on a case relating to the murder of Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Fujel, Gorkha dating back to the armed conflict in the country has been postponed for the 15th time.  The latest hearing, scheduled for October 29, has been rescheduled for coming December 11. The rescheduled date comes following an appeal from defense lawyer Gopal Shiwakoti’s inability to take part in the discussion on the mentioned day.

Hunger strike demanding party ticket

Four district youth leaders from Saptari have begun a fast-unto-death from Tuesday to their dissatisfaction over party’s decision to share seats for upcoming House of Representatives election. The local leaders are staging the hunger strike at the UML district office premises. They have demanded that the district's recommendation to nominate central member Suman Raj Pyakurel from constituency no. 1 should stand. The party leadership has provided ticket to Ashok Kumar Mandal (Amar) of MC, for the constituency. Mandal was elected to the second Constituent Assembly from erstwhile constituency no. 2 of the district. 

Nepal one of top SAARC economies for business

Nepal has been listed as one of the three most favored SAARC countries in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business list published today. Bhutan and India were ranked at 75 and 100 respectively. The report states that Nepal, with a score of 105, performed well in areas of getting credit and protecting minority investors.
