LALITPUR, Feb 13: Four years have passed since the Gorkha earthquake and some 6,000 private houses are still to be reconstructed inside Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

At a program 'Private Sector's contribution and role in post-earthquake reconstruction and resettlement' organised by Transparency International (TI) Nepal here on Wednesday, Chief of Building Project of the District Project Implementation Unit, Chandrakaji Gurung, said that a total of 7,408 people were identified as the beneficiary in the Metropolitan City.

Gurung added, "The agreement was signed with 6,383 beneficiaries. Six thousand three hundred sixty-six beneficiaries received the first tranche. Similarly, 1,527 beneficiaries got second and 1,070 beneficiaries received the third tranche. But only 913 private houses have been reconstructed." He said that although the private sector has constructed private houses at different places, there is still a problem of keeping fact records.

Similarly, representative of New Surya Enterprises, Chin Maharjan, said that it would be effective to forward the plan of integrated settlement inside the metropolitan city.

He argued, "The government should make arrangement of waiver of supply charge as the metropolitan city has been facing lots of problem in supplying materials in city areas."
