BHIMDATTANAGAR, Feb 23: The parents of Nirmala Panta of Bhimdattanagar municipality-2, who had been staging a sit-in for long, demanding action against the culprits behind the rape and murder of their daughter, have called off the sit-in.

They postponed the sit-in after submitting a memorandum to the Prime Minister, through the District Administration Office, Kanchanpur, on Friday. The parents of the 13-year-old Panta had been staging the sit-in at the main gate to the District Administration Office since November 11 at the initiatives of the local Citizens Struggle Committee.

The victim's father, Yagya Raj Panta, complained that the government was not serious regarding the rape and murder of their daughter even after seven months of the happening of the heinous crime.
Handing over the memo addressed to the Prime Minister to the Chief District Officer Shankar Bista, he charged that a 'gang' was active to create a situation to let off the police employees who allegedly destroyed the evidence related to the crime.

"Nothing more than departmental action was taken against those police personnel who destroyed the evidence. Whoever is the criminal, they should be brought to book," an angry Yagya said. He said they had to call off the sit-in due to health issue for now but would press for justice to their daughter. The Panta couple will now go to Kathmandu for health treatment. RSS
