KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa vowed to arrest culprits involved in Nirmala Panta's rape and murder, on Wednesday.
Responding to lawmakers' questions during the question-answer session, Home Minister Thapa said that the government is committed to arrest the culprit(s) involved in Panta's rape and murder saying that the investigation is underway.
"The government will leave no stone unturned to arrest and prosecute those involved in the rape and murder of Pant. The culprits will be arrested wherever they are. It may take some time to arrest the culprit(s) involved in Nirmala Panta's rape and murder. As part of our investigation, we have already arrested some of the suspects," Thapa said.
The home minister claimed that 96% culprits were brought to book by the police in recent years.
Lawmakers Gagan Thapa, Dila Sangroula and Mahes Basnet among others raised the question regarding the rape and murder of 13-year-old Pant some six months ago in Mahendranagar.
During the parliament session, the lawmakers also raised question over the recent encounters by the Nepal Police.
Lawmakers also raised question over the death of Nishan Khadka during “police encounter” who was allegedly kidnapped and killed 11-year-old at Kadaghari in in Bhaktapur. In Nepal, the police encounters have become subject of controversy, Experts say that such controversial police encounters are only weakening the credibility of the security agency.
