Police rescue kidnapped child within nine hours

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: A team from the Metropolitan Police Range Office (MPRO), Kathmandu, on Friday rescued a kidnapped girl child from Tilganga around nine hours of the kidnap from her residence in Koteshwar.

Police rescued two-year-old Sandhya Karna, daughter of Dr Babita Shah, a doctor at Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital (Prasuti Griha) at Thapathali. The child was rescued from the Tilganga Eye Hospital area though her kidnapper, one Manish Kumar Gupta of Janakpur, managed to escape.  

According to the MPRO, the child was kidnapped from her home at Kharibot, Koteshwar, by Gupta. The child was with her grandparents when she was kidnapped. Her mother had already left for work when the kidnap took place. 

Police officials claimed that the rescue took place at about 5 pm while the child was kidnapped from her residence at about 8:30 am. 

“Karna was kidnapped from her home at around 8:30 am,” spokesperson for the MPRO, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hobindra Bogati, told Republica, “And we tracked down and confronted the kidnapper at about 5 pm.” Police have informed Republica that the kidnapper had demanded a ransom of Rs 250,000.

DSP Bogati, who also led the police team rescuing the child, said that the team tracked the GPS of the kidnapper's phone to locate him. “We tracked down kidnapper Gupta's phone's GPS and tried to get information about his whereabouts,” DSP Bogati said. The police team had located the kidnapper at Jorpati where he had evaded a team of 40 police personnel by mixing up in the crowd.
