MAHENDRANAGAR, Sept 17: Locals of Belauri Municipality in Kanchanpur district took control of four Indian police personnel who illegally entered Nepal on Thursday evening with weapons. They were handed over to District Police Office (DPO), Kanchanpur on the same day.

Six Indian police--three in uniform and remaining three others in mufti--had entered Nepal on three motorcycles. 

Locals claim that after the Indian policemen started to misbehave a confrontation ensued. 

While two of them managed to escape, the rest were handed over to the DPO. 

“The Indian security personnel entered the house of Jhup Bahadur Shahi and Thir Bahadir Shahi and started searching, which led to the confrontation,” said Om Prakash Pant, a local. About 40-50 locals had gathered around the house sensing trouble.

Locals handed over one pistol and 10 rounds of ammunitions that were confiscated from Indian police to a team of Nepal Police that arrived at the scene later. 

Locals claimed that the two other Indian security personnel who managed to flee were also carrying pistols.

The arrested members of the Indian police force have told the Nepali police that they crossed the border to look for stolen motorcycles. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) Tulasi Adhikari, chief of the DPO, said the arrested Indian policemen will not be released without permission from the Home Ministry and other high-level authorities. 

Following the arrest, some Indian citizens had crossed the border to protest the arrest of Indian police. 

During the process, they even clashed with Nepali citizens. 

According to locals, there have been several instances of Indian police as well as members of Sima Suraksha Bal (SSB) entering Nepal with weapons.
