Post-quake reconstruction to be completed in 2 years: NRA chief

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Sushil Gyewali, has said that the ongoing post-quake reconstruction work would be completed within the next two years.

In a meeting of Development Committee of the Federal Parliament, NRA CEO Gyewali shared details of the progress made in the post-quake reconstruction and upcoming plans of the NRA. He also claimed that in the remaining two years, all post-quake reconstruction work will be completed.

The report provided by NRA showed that 77 percent of the progress is seen in the reconstruction of private housing, which includes under-construction and fully completed houses whereas 80 percent progress can be seen in the reconstruction of educational institutions.

NRA figures also reveal that 95% progress has been made in the rebuilding of government buildings, 68% progress in the reconstruction of cultural heritage sites and 84% progress has been made in rebuilding security sectors buildings. “We have expedited the reconstruction work through policy, legal and structural reforms,” he said.

CEO Gyewali said that they are moving forward with a clear aim and plan so the reconstruction work will be completed by the end of 2020. He requested to all those who have already taken grants but not started reconstruction work to complete their house reconstruction soon while asking those receiving grants by submitting fake details to return the money.

Gyewali had presented progress details of reconstruction of educational institutions, health centers, government offices, security agencies, and heritage sites, and said that all the reconstruction work would be completed within the remaining two-year tenure of the NRA.
