CHITWAN, Dec 25: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, co-chairperson of Nepal Communist Party said that the government must not show favoritism to any religion. He added that the constitution also respected religious freedom and that all believers of religion needed to be treated equally.
"Pushpa Lal or BP Koirala, both of them fought against bad culture and misconceptions to establish scientific belief," Dahal said in a program at Chitwan where he paid tribute to late Dhana Kumari Subedi, mother of party leader Surya Pathik and Bishwa Prakash Subedi.
He added that an individual was not entitled to dishonor another due to their faith. "However, the government must ensure it is free from any bias and discrimination as both are pillars of democratic values."
Highlighting education, health, and employment as basic rights of citizens, Dahal also expressed concerns on how people were barred from the opportunities. "In remote places, people still have to die due to lack of basic medicines and health facilities."
