Three Star to compete in Guwahati

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: National League champion Ruslan Three Star Club is set to take part in the Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy football tournament scheduled to be held in Guwahati, Assam from September 18. 

The Lalitpur-based club, which is participating in the 64-year-old tournament for the second time, had reached the final in its maiden participation in 2010. 

The tournament to be organized by Guwahati FC will see participation of eight teams from India, Nepal and Bangladesh vying for a purse of Rs 3.2 million at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati. 

Three Star, which qualified for the play-off round of AFC Cup last month, has been drawn in Group A along with I-league outfit Shillong Lajong, Flamingo FC of Nagaland and Oil India FC of Assam. 

Similarly Group B consists of Indian powerhouse East Bengal, United Sikkim owned by former India football team captain Baichung Bhutia, Bangladeshi club Bongobi Ogragami and Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club of Guwahati. 

Three Star has been training for the Bordoloi Trophy since 15 days after returning from Mongolia, according to head coach Megh Raj KC. “We have been preparing for the tournament since returning from the AFC Cup play-off qualifiers and we have set eyes on winning the trophy,” said KC. 

Three Star has added two new Nigerian players to strengthen its midfield and attacking zone. “We have added two new players in the central midfield and forward lineup to strengthen the squad,” informed KC. Besides the two new addition, Three Star will be studded by the team that played in Mongolia during the AFC Cup playoff qualifiers. 

Three Star will begin its quest on September 19 when it faces Flamingo FC, followed by matches against Oil India FC and Shillong Lajong on September 23 and 25 respectively. 
Three Star will leave for Guwahati on September 16.
