KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has questioned Prime Minister KP Oli’s capacity to leading the country toward development.

In a political document of the party, prepared to be presented at the Mahasamiti meeting slated to begin Friday in Kathmandu, the NC has alleged that the KP Oli government has failed to pick up momentum.

“He (KP Oli) doesn’t seem to have governance and leadership capacity to take the country toward speedy development despite enjoying a favorable political environment,” reads the party’s evaluation to the government. 

The opposition has mentioned out five major flaws of the government in the political paper. NC has accused the government of remaining indifferent toward federalism, not working to making the constitution more acceptable, centralizing power at the prime minister’s office, suppressing opposition voices, and interfering with the freedom of expression and media.

NC has also reiterated that the communist party-led government is growing authoritarian.

Stating that the government has continued to misuse the existing laws to attack the free press since its establishment, the political paper has stressed the need for exerting pressure on the government to restore absolute press freedom as guaranteed by the constitution. 

The paper has termed the merger of the two communist parties to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) as a unification of anti-democratic forces.

The political paper prepared by party leader Bimalendra Nidhi-led team has credited the Nepali Congress for making Nepal a federal democratic republic and insisted that the party should focus on shoring up the achievement. The paper also stressed the need for amending the constitution to address the dissenting voices.
