BUTWAL, Dec 5: An enraged group of locals vandalized the casino of the Tiger Palace Resort, a five-star hotel, at Kotihawa in Rupandehi at 8 pm on Saturday after the hotel management allegedly tried to fire some of its local employees without prior notice. The hotel management has filed a complaint at the District Administrative Office (DAO) to investigate into the vandalism claiming that it suffered property losses worth Rs 2 million.

Previously, the hotel management and the local employees had a heated exchange after the hotel allegedly tried to terminate the job contracts of some locals, who were working on a one-year contract. The infrared sensor gate of the casino has suffered damage while some furniture was also damaged in the vandalism.

According to the locals, the hotel has already fired eight local employees in the last six months. “They have fired eight local employees in the last six months,” Ward Chairperson of Tilottama Municipality-15, Khemraj Gurung, said.

A security guard at the hotel claimed that the hotel has been firing local employees and hiring employees from elsewhere in their place.

According to the locals, Tiger Palace Resort, which was built with a foreign investment of more than Rs 5 billion, had promised to build a public library, roads, irrigation canals among other infrastructures in the locality.

It had also promised to give employment to the locals. But the hotel, according to locals, has not fulfilled most of the promises and instead has encroached upon around 15 kattha of public canal land.

According to the District Police Office, it is currently conducting an investigation into the vandalism.
